The President of the National Meat Institute, Alfredo Fratti, opened the stand and talked about the current situation of the meat sector, stressing recent news from Switzerland. He mentioned that Uruguay is specially looking forward to the visit of a Korean inspection team in October and to news about bone-in sheep meat authorization for the United States.

Fratti insisted that breeders should have some certainty about the meat business. “Nobody can do what farmers or processors do not want to do”, stated the President with regard to the incentives to be given in order to increase the number of heads.

He asked what the private sector was doing to improve this situation. “We have to pay attention to the breeding sector". “It is necessary that more calves are born” he added, disregarding the efforts made by the “Three million” project.

Uruguay continues to have a good position in the world meat market, exporting less volume but beating income records. We have managed to diversify markets and generate better access, the President said.

Fratti referred to the stand theme – market information - highlighting the information gathered by the Institute, highly valuable for the government and for the population in general.
