China: time for evaluation

Three months after the start of Uruguay's participation at the Shanghai Universal Fair, the responsible of installing the stand and the restaurant described the return achieved as positive.

Uruguay Natural Meat Deli Restaurant, serves 550 people per day, and the stand is visited by an average of 7 thousand people per day.

On August 25th., a delegation leadered by the Vice-president of the Republic, Cr. Danilo Astori will participate in China on the occasion of a National Bank Holiday of our country and there will also be a two week Uruguayan meat tasting event at the Intercontinental Shanghai Puxi Hotel, one of the most exclusives of Shanghai.

Uruguayan Commissioner at the Fair, Ec. Roberti Villamil - Executive Director of Uruguay XXI, Sub Commissioner, Dr. Alfredo Fratti- INAC's President, International Economic Affairs Director, from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Gonzalo Koncke, and representing delegations from the fish industry and Destino Punta del Este, Enrique Figueroa and Ricardo Weiss, were present at the press conference.

Figures of the Restaurant:

  • Persons per day: 550
  • Preferred dishes: at the fast food restaurant the "Tango" combo, which are small pieces of meat with sauces served with potatoes and rustic sweet potatoes and a drink.
  • At the slow food restaurant "Estancia" and "La Cumparsita".  The first dish is a 300 grs. spencer roll served with rustic potatoes and criolle sauce and the second one a 200 grs. spencer roll with the same side dish, which is included in a menu with starters and crème caramel with dulce de leche as desert.

INAC's President, Dr. Alfredo Fratti gave details of activities to be carried out during two weeks of August, where one will be able to taste Uruguayan meat at the Intercontinental Hotel.

He also brought forward interest shown in the promotion model in other countries and in China, as well as contacts made with investors from United Kingdom, Guatemala and China (Chongqing and Shanghai).

Executive Director of Uruguay XXI, Uruguay Commissioner at the Fair, said that China will be one of the supports of economic increase in the world and he added that at present it is the second destiny of exports of our country.

We also see China as a potential investor abroad, said Ec. Roberto Villamil.

Thirty seven Uruguayan businessmen have travelled to China in the last two months to make contacts in various areas.  It is estimated that at the end of the Fair, in October, 75 million people may have passed through Expo Shanghai.
