Presence of INAC

Date: 11/25/2010

This time INAC technicians from the Domestic Market Control Directorate presented updated statistics of meat consumption in Uruguay.

Trends of global meat trade for this decade and Uruguay's positioning were analyzed by Pablo Caputi, Information Director.

Caputi stated that production of pig meat and poultry will continue to grow on this decade, while grass-fed beef and lamb will also grow to a lesser extent, and remain at high prices.

In that sense, South America will be the great manufacturer of food and energy, simply because water is what produces life.    "We will compete based on grass", Caputi pointed out.

The experience of electronic traceability demonstrations developed to strengthen confidence in Uruguayan products was the focus of Fernando Gil's presentation, from the External Market Directorate.

Likewise, INAC’s Chairman took part in the agricultural discussion group of El Espectador, which was broadcasted from the Conference location. Chairmen of INIA and LATU and representatives of farmers and meat processors were also part of the discussion group that approached innovation as the key factor to improve competitiveness.

Previously, Sergio Puglia from Radio Sarandí chaired the round table broadcasted on the radio, in which butchers, representatives of slaughterplants and supermarkets, and INAC technicians presented their vision on domestic market operators.
