Sheepmeat in USA

Date: 03/17/2011

Authorities of the Ministry of Livestock, Agriculture and Fisheries, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and INAC confirmed in a press conference that the process to open the American market for Uruguayan sheepmeat will finish in 60 days.

The Minister of Livestock Tabaré Aguerre, accompanied by representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the National Meat Institute, stated that the publication of the corresponding rule in the United States is an important opportunity, since Canada already approved imports of sheep meat from our country and the opening of the Mexican market is imminent.

Aguerre reminded that negotiations with the American market began in 2005 when the President of the Republic José Mujica took action acting in his capacity of Minister of Livestock at that time.

The Secretary of State said that a country’s wealth is measured in terms of production increase, price increase and differentiation of production and processes to improve prices.

The regulation having been published in the Federal Register of the United States, only 60 days remain for the market to be finally opened, in case there are no comments to the contrary on the part of American organizations, businessmen and exporters.
