Meat consumption in Uruguay

Meat consumption levels in our country continue to be similar to those of developed countries.

By the end of this year, consumption will have reached near 90Kg./person/year, including 59 kg. of beef and an increase of 15 and 13 % in pork and poultry, as announced to the media at Expo Prado by Gabriel Costas of the Domestic Market Control Division.

As to cuts preferred by Uruguayans, ground beef comes first, followed by rib plate.

First semester 2011

Meat consumption in Uruguay:

  • Beef consumption drop: - 5.4 % (59 kg. per capita)
  • Pork consumption increased: 9.0 % (11 kg. per capita)
  • Poultry consumption increased: 13 % (22 kg. per capita)
