Demand for Uruguayan beef continues to be steady

Fecha: 11/10/2011

The President of the National Meat Institute, Alfredo Fratti, assured that Uruguayan meat exports have not been affected by the European crisis. He stated that prices have been adjusted given the dollar has become stronger in Uruguay in the last month. He referred to the sector exports as “stable and with growing demand”, which is also explained by the current market diversification.

He added that there was a monetary adjustment due to the dollar strengthening in Uruguay, which entailed a drop of 9% in prices.

Exports are stable and demand is growing, and we have attained a market diversification that grants stability to exports because Uruguay sells to over 100 countries and has 120 authorized markets.

Fratti stated that the European crisis has not affected the sector and that he thinks there is no reason to believe it may occur anything different to what happened in 2008.

At that time “it seemed the world would break apart”, that exports would turn difficult, however, none of this predictions came true.
