Meat consumption in Uruguay

Meat demand remains steady. In 2011 participation of beef fell from 64.8 % to 64 % compared to 2010, whereas consumption of poultry and pig meat increased as regards the previous year.

Global consumption of all meats in Uruguay reached 97.7 Kg. per person a year.

Beef consumption got to 60.2 Kg., our country remaining in first place in the beef consumption ranking.

Poultry consumption ranks second amongst the preferences of Uruguayan population.

As to pig meat, consumption of this product in its natural state has been observed; so far this product was mainly consumed industrialized, i.e., in byproducts.
